Eighth Day of Navratri: Astrological Significance of Worshiping Maa Mahagauri :

The eighth day of Navratri, known as Maha Ashtami, is dedicated to the worship of Maa

Mahagauri, the eighth form of Goddess Durga. This day holds great significance for devotees

and is also profoundly impactful from an astrological perspective. Let’s explore the worship

procedures, mythological stories, and astrological importance of Maa Mahagauri.

Divine Form of Maa Mahagauri

Maa Mahagauri’s form is exceptionally fair and divine, often compared to the conch shell,

jasmine flowers, and the moon. Her appearance symbolizes peace, gentleness, and devotion.

Worshiping Maa Mahagauri with proper rituals provides relief from life’s problems and

fulfills all desires.

Mythological Stories :

Two prominent mythological stories are associated with Maa Mahagauri:

1. First Story: Maa Parvati performed severe penance to win Lord Shiva as her

husband. During her penance, her body became covered with dust, darkening her

appearance. After completing her penance, she bathed in the sacred waters of the

Ganges, restoring her fair and divine form, thus becoming Maa Mahagauri.

2. Second Story: To defeat the demons Shumbh and Nishumbh, Maa Parvati took on

the fierce form of Mahakali, which made her appearance dark. To regain her original

divine form, she performed penance and was instructed to bathe in the holy waters of

the Mansarovar Lake, which restored her pristine and beautiful form.
